BACK TO BACK FOR WINSLET

the 66th annual Golden Globe was held this morning (MLA TIME) after it was "not-held" last yr due to the writer's strike in US.
i woke up early because the part i really wanted to witness more is the red carpet moments. hehe... J.Lo's gold Marchesa gown was jaw-dropping. Drew's hair was a mess 'do but for me it suited here. of course beyonce was fierce.. in a sequined Elie Saab frock and a breathtaking platinum-and-diamond Lorraine Schwartz necklace.. and of course the big winner was Kate Winslet! She was in a stunning black strapless YSL gown.
I've been a fan of Kate Winslet post Titanic. She was nominated in that film for the best actress (Oscar's) but the title was bagged by Helen Hunt for the movie As Good As it Gets.
Of Course her first nominations came from the movie Sense and Sensibility but the trophy went to Susan Sarandon for Dead Man Walking.
After Titanic, she went to work with some not-so-famous films like IRIS (2001) wherein she was also nominated as best actress in a supporting role both for GG and Oscars, but was beaten by Jennifer Connelly for A Beautiful Mind. Well, that film was a beauty too so I guess it wasn't time for Kate yet. And it was more commercialized than Iris.
Her role in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind opposite Jim Carrey in 2004 garnered another nod for Academy and GG for actress in a major role stint but the award was bagged by Reese for Walk the Line.
Then came her 5th nomination in 2006 for both awards for the film Little Children. Dame Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth grabbed the trophy.
After two years, she's back for two films, The Reader and Revolutionary Road. And this time Kate's nominated for best actress for both films. First in a supporting role for her portrayal of a camp guard in the film The Reader and as a wife in a crumbling marriage for Revolutionary Road. Her film with Leonardo after 13 yrs.
When J.Lo announced the winner for Kate's first nomination, I actually applauded in the comfort of my own bedroom! And she accepted the award with trembling hand and said "...I am really not used to winning..." perhaps in retrospect with her previous 5 nominations!
Then came the major role category which she also bagged. This time she was really nearly teary, stating (to Leo) "I've loved you for 13 years and your performance in this film is nothing short of spectacular." and (to her hubby Sam Mendesm who happens to be the director of the film as well) "Thank you for directing this film, babe, and thank you for killing us every single day and really enjoying us actually being in such horrific pain."
I was really happy for her... her modesty is still there. and after like a decade in the making, she finally got her own nod. Galing talaga! I will make a point to grab a copy of RR because I missed it in the movie house. I hope she also wins for the coming Oscars in Feb 22nd.
As for other highlights of the GG, Heath Ledger was also awarded best actor in supporting role for her diabolical role in the batman film The Dark Knight. I love him as well since Ten Things I Hate About You, opposite Julia Stiles. When he sang, "i love you baby, and if it's quite alright, I need you baby, to warm my lonely nights..." i just had one of those blower-in-the-V kilig moments. LOL
which made me want to watch the movie again after shift... thank God for pirates of carriedos! hahaha!!!
